Adler 1946 - 1957
1946 New beginning with typewriters
At the end of 1946, typewriter production begins again in Frankfurt am Main under very difficult conditions.
Following the currency reforms and at the beginning of the economic recovery, Adler introduces several new models in quick succession, incorporating modern designs in grey injection-moulded casings. Motorbike production resumes in 1949; car construction on the other hand is discontinued.
1954 Market leader once more
Adler resumes its position as market leader for office machines. Its market share in Germany is 45%.
At the Hanover Fair the first electric Adler is unveiled. In 1955, Adler produces over 100,000 typewriters and turnover breaks the 50 million mark barrier. Adler accounts for just under 40% of the export market for the entire German office machine industry. Construction of bicycles is discontinued.
1957 Grundig acquires majority shareholding
At the end of 1957, Fürth radio and television set manufacturer Max Grundig acquires a majority shareholding in Adler via the Triumph factories in Nuremberg.
Following its takeover by the Grundig Group, Adler ceases manufacturing motorcycles and scooters.
