TA Triumph-Adler passes the "crunch test" at Brandt by helping the rusk manufacturer to reduce its costs

Brandt Zwieback-Schokoladen begins its centenary year with greater efficiency and a 37 percent reduction in its document management costs.

25 October 2011. 100 years of tradition and still a market leader with its rusk products – Brandt Zwieback-Schokoladen GmbH + Co. KG, based in Hagen, was two years ago named one of Germany’s "Brands of the Century". 115 years of tradition and still a market leader – TA Triumph-Adler GmbH, based in Nuremberg, is another classic brand. Having once stood for innovation and quality in typewriters, the company is now known as the specialist in the document business with its Managed Document Services (MDS). Both companies share a rich tradition and have come together as Brandt prepares to celebrate its centenary year.

TA Triumph-Adler has optimised document management, standardised the system landscape, minimised maintenance expenditure and taken over material procurement at Brandt. With an output of just under two and a half million pages annually, it was clear to management in both companies that there was enormous potential for improving efficiency and saving valuable resources. TA Triumph-Adler quantified this potential in an analysis of costs and consumption and then used this data to optimise output management. After just six months, an impressive monthly cost saving of 37 percent has already been achieved.

Brandt rusk products must be consistently crunchy. This has always been the way, and will continue to be so for the next 100 years. When it comes to processes within the company, however, there has always been room for change. "We check and update our IT infrastructure cyclically," says Christoph Treß, Head of Organisation and Data Processing. "After our invitation to tender we invited four suppliers to submit bids. TA Triumph-Adler was ultimately the only candidate that could achieve maximum standardisation of the hardware and software and keep maintenance expenditure as low as possible."

The results of the Brandt "crunch test" eventually produced a customised, yet flexible MDS solution. The systems are monitored continuously using an Accounting Box solution, which generates significant key figures, reports errors and records the consumption of individual cost centres. Even the procurement of paper is now being handled by TA Triumph-Adler under much more favourable conditions – with the result that there is no need to keep stocks and employees have more time to spend on the really important tasks.

The entire equipment pool has been standardised and now includes 68 A4 printers and 50 multi-function devices from TA Triumph-Adler. "We have the capability to work with devices from various manufacturers. In a rigorous comparison conducted with the Brandt marketing department, our printers delivered the best result for true-colour proofs – and we were able to achieve seamless standardisation," explains Philipp Pohlhausen, Project Manager at TA Triumph-Adler West GmbH. Christoph Treß adds: "The concept works in practice exactly as it was described in the presentation."

For Guiscardo Pin, COO of TA Triumph-Adler, there is no alternative: "Our analysts have extensive knowledge in the area of IT data streams and develop a customised MDS concept for each customer aimed at bringing about a sustained improvement in efficiency. We thus save both time and money and create real added value for our customers."

It took less than four weeks to implement the system and to connect the hardware to the internal network and make it SAP-compatible. This is barely a blink of an eye in the 100-year history of Brandt, but its effects will continue to be felt well into the second century of the company’s existence.
