09.09.2008: Efficient document business reduces costs in healthcare

Around one out of every three euro spent in offices goes towards the printing, faxing and copying of documents. This is particularly true of the healthcare sector, with an ever-increasing document flow in clinics and hospitals. Very few organisations realise that they can reduce their document management costs by more than 15 per cent. Robert Feldmeier, Spokesman of the Management Board of TA Triumph-Adler AG, will speak on how clinics and hospitals can save money despite increasing document volumes at the 4th Healthcare Management Conference in Hamburg on September 10.

Nuremberg/Hamburg, September 9, 2008 – Significant savings can be achieved in the healthcare sector by standardising hardware systems and outsourcing device maintenance: “Administrative expenditure in document management is a major cost driver. Up to two thirds of total output management costs are due to unforeseeable time outlay,” explains Robert Feldmeier. Office systems and workflows that are not standardised rob hospital employees of valuable time. Hardware procurement, on the other hand, accounts for just 15 per cent of total document business costs, adds the CEO of TA Triumph-Adler.
The company has devised a solution specifically intended for clinics and hospitals. Following a detailed analysis with the consulting and analysis concept TOM (Total Output Management), a system tailored to the individual requirements of the hospital is installed. TA Triumph-Adler guarantees the requisite high availability of the systems in patient care in an all-in rental contract. The document business specialist supplies not only the hardware, software and consumables from one brand, but also takes charge of the control and maintenance of the office system. In service cases occurring during the day, systems are restored to operating condition within four hours.
The digital archiving of documents offers enormous savings potential for hospitals faced with an ever-growing mountain of files. Using the DIDO concept (Digital Document Organisation) for digital archiving, cost savings of around 70 per cent can be achieved compared with storing records in paper form. The innovative OS TIGER/APP product from TA Triumph-Adler also offers hospitals a complete digital basic archive. This guarantees structured long-term archiving for all patient records in a minimum of space and ensures that all documents are available from any workstation. The benefits are clear to see – the archiving of 15 million patient records takes no more space than an A3 sheet of paper.

Robert Feldmeier will provide more information in his presentation ‘From medical IT to the digital hospital – bits and bytes in patient services’ on September 10, 2008 at the 4th Healthcare Management Conference, which will take place in the Hotel InterContinental, Fontenay 10, 20354 Hamburg.
