31.10.2008: Visitors to the exhibition can write texts using antique typewriters
TA Triumph-Adler AG is taking part in a unique initiative by the Staatstheater Nürnberg. The project, entitled ‘AE:G – ArbeitsEnde:Gestern’, examines at the experiences, thoughts and memories of former AEG employees following the plant closure on March 14, 2007, through a theatre performance and a week-long project with the theme ‘Full employment for all’. As a Nuremberg-based company itself, and a specialist in office communication for over 112 years, TA Triumph-Adler AG provided fifty antique typewriters from its archives for the writing workshop held during the project week.
Nuremberg, October 31, 2008 – In 2006, the fight to keep the parent plant of AEG Hausgeräte AG open made headlines across Germany. The plant’s 1,750 workers fought to save their jobs in a struggle that was a key event in the history of Nuremberg as an industrial base. When the plant shut down the entire workforce lost their jobs. Under the leadership of director Tina Geißinger, the process of collecting the experiences and memories of those who became unemployed and expressing them through writing and drama began in February 2008. The resulting texts and material formed the basis for the cultural project.
The old Muggenhof tram depot was opened specially for the ‘Full employment for all’ project week. The depot was divided into a number of themed areas, each giving a unique insight into Nuremberg’s eventful history as an indistrual base. The exhibition included the writing workshop supported by TA Triumph-Adler, where visitors could record their thoughts and write notes using the antique typewriters or read the texts provided by former AEG employees. The best contributions from visitors were collected and presented in a reading at the end of the event.
As a professional office service provider, TA Triumph-Adler can look back proudly on its own historical association with the city of Nuremberg, during which the company has seen a great deal of change as well as success. It all began in 1896 with bicycles, followed by motorbikes. The company was quick to move with the times and identify the possibilities and demands that existed in the office environment. This led to the production of the first typewriters. Many machine generations later, in a history which includes associations with Volkswagen, Litton Industries and Olivetti, the company is currently the market leader for the document business in Germany, and the specialist when it comes to efficiency in the modern office. “With such a long history, in which there have been a great many ups and downs, TA Triumph-Adler has very strong links with the Nuremberg region,” says Spokesman of the Management Board Robert Feldmeier. “It therefore gives us great pleasure to be able to support the Staatstheater Nürnberg in a project like this.”
