02.09.2009: TA Triumph-Adler West shows logistics representatives ways of getting through the economics crisis
These are difficult times for the logistics industry. As the third-largest economic sector in Germany, logistics has been hit particularly hard by the effects of the economic crisis and the changes in global commodity flows. This is in turn forcing companies to massively reduce their costs. The savings potential that logistics companies can harness by modernising their internal processes was demonstrated to visitors at the first Logistics Open, an information event hosted by TA Triumph-Adler West GmbH aimed specifically at companies in the logistics industry.
Dortmund, September 2, 2009 – Cost transparency and optimisation in relation to paper documentation, digital workflow for invoice receipt as well as legal foundations and audit requirements were the main topics of the event, to which the document business specialists TA Triumph-Adler invited speakers working directly in the industry. Representatives from logistics companies DHL Freight and Schmidt-Gevelsberg spoke about the successes and the obstacles that they encountered when optimising their document management.
“Whether it’s an invoice, receipt or delivery note, the way in which these documents are handled in a logistics or transport company differs significantly from the processes in an industrial enterprise”, explained Robert Feldmeier, Spokesman for the Board of TA Triumph-Adler AG, in his welcoming speech. “To give comprehensive advice, you must first understand and take into account the industry-specific process chains. Only then can efficient document management be successfully implemented.” The hosts of the information day, TA Triumph-Adler West GmbH, focussed on the logistics sector. More than 1,000 shipping and logistics companies already rely on TA Triumph-Adler to channel their paper and electronic documents correctly.
These customers are successfully utilising the enormous savings potential that exists. In his speech, Robert Feldmeier presented some surprising statistics, which most companies are not even aware of. The creation of an analogue document costs a company around 2 euros per page. At first glance this doesn’t seem like much. However, throughout the life of this document, the costs for processing, storage, archiving and distribution amount to around 39 euros. This means that companies must spend 41 euros per page. For medium-sized logistics companies that have to process between 160 and 200 invoices every day, some of which contain several pages, this represents a significant cost factor. For example, a shipping company with around 30,000 customers produces around 12 tonnes of paper documents in just one year. If you then consider how many of these documents need to be archived, the costs soon mount up. “Huge amounts of money are being spent unnecessarily”, says the Spokesman of the Management Board. “With a document management system, the processing time for documents can be reduced by 90 per cent and the amount of archive space required can be reduced by up to 80 per cent. The cost savings that an be achieved are enormous.”
As the document business specialist, TA Triumph-Adler offers solutions for all document-related issues. These include, along with hardware competence, the entire business workflow, incorporating the latest software solutions and archiving programs. The offering also includes the JAMES service concept as well as individual financing options.
There will be another opportunity to find out exactly how these solutions can be used effectively in the logistics industry at the 27th Dortmund Talks, which will be held on September 8, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. Robert Feldmeier will be giving a speech entitled “What logistics can we still afford? – Climate change, economic crisis and the future of logistics.”
