11.08.2009: Thirty years ago, TA Triumph-Adler launched the successful alphatronic PC range

The personal computer has revolutionised office and business life. One of the very first PCs available in Germany was the TA Triumph-Adler alphatronic, in 1979. The alphatronic range achieved cult status and set the tone on the PC market during the 1980s. The alphatronic’s strengths were its efficiency, robustness and versatility. To this day, these product characteristics, together with the comprehensive, award-winning TA Triumph-Adler AG service, have provided the foundation for the company’s success. With more than 35,000 end customers, the IT service provider is currently the market leader in the document business in Germany.

Nuremberg, 11 August 2009 – By today’s standards the first alphatronic machine looks somewhat unwieldy. The MS-DOS operating system was yet to be invented and users had to program the microcomputer themselves. IBM only launched a PC on the European market in 1984. The 1986 alphatronic P 50 and P 60 PCs are now regarded as modern classics. They won design awards and set new standards in operating convenience. Children and young people learned how to use a computer for the first time at school on alphatronic PCs. The alphatronic also made it onto TV. In the popular episodes of the German TV series "Computer Corner", the machine demonstrated what a good PC was capable of.

During the late 1980s, the personal computer rapidly displaced the typewriter. In 1991, TA Triumph-Adler also introduced a new generation of notebooks with brilliant colour displays onto the market. The century-old corporate icon then temporarily diversified to form a medium-sized holding company operating in numerous sectors. One of these was office communication, which always proved the most profitable. Ten years later, the long-established Nuremberg company then returned to its actual core competence: efficiency in the office.

Today, TA Triumph-Adler AG is the specialist in the document business. This focus is now helping the group of companies face the greatest global economic crisis since the 1970s. With more than 35,000 end customers and supporting over 200,000 office systems, the consulting company has become the market leader in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The group offers a wide range of software (document management systems) and hardware (copiers, printers and fax machines). Moreover, with the Total Output Management (TOM), DIDO (Digital Document Organisation) and JAMES (service) concepts developed by Triumph-Adler, it also offers unique analysis and consulting services individually tailored to each of its customers.
